kansai

This post is so late, but it's from my time in Kyoto and Osaka last May. I went with a friend and as soon as I stepped off the train, my heart surrendered. There was a time when I was considering living here instead of Fukuoka, and I now almost regret my final decision. My spiritual being, my thoughts, my mood feeds off this place. During the day, shrines adorn the streets, stains of monochrome and color gently absorb into your eyes. Voices are softly spoken, and the rest of the city can loudly heard. During the night, the city lights quiver above all of our mobile bodies. The whole town is drenched and illuminated in soft light, only adding to the dramatic effect of this city. It is perfect here. I can think of nothing else other than to wander around, absorb everything, photograph, record everything. At night, I write, like I am now, to recollect even more that I swear I have missed. Never stop travelling. This world, every country has so much offer. So much to experience, to take in. I want to never stop growing, evolving.

summer rose

It's taken me so long to finish editing these photos for various reasons. Last month I had been going through great stress when I decided to make the big decision to move back home to California. I thought my mind was invisible. I thought I would stay in Japan forever, but life gives us obstacles and opportunities that we always never expect to come. I am still dealing with reverse culture shock, along with trying to decide my future (should I stay here for years to come, or go back to Japan next year). I find solace in art, in reading and writing, and editing photos. I'm still waiting for a new camera, I won't feel good about taking new photos until I do. I'm a little stubborn, but I had my mind made up when my dear friend Tatsu let me use his camera during this shoot.
Tatsu and our amazing model, Anya, ventured to Oowakudani in Hakone to shoot. I thought the location was beautiful and they both agreed. I have stains of memories before the shoot; talking on the train from Shinjuku station, passing scenes of green as we sat talking and laughing until we arrived. This has been the most interesting photo shoot I've had in a long time, thanks to these two souls and their amazing personalities. I'm exited that I'm finally finished with these photos!
